Finding balance In The USTSkim Teams Now Positioned To Do Battle April 23, 2001 By Sid Said So We’ve all seen it at some point in our lives.
A dominant team or athlete out there, shutting down the
opposition, night after night, day after day.
Be it a little league baseball team, an NBA franchise or Tiger
Woods. Although
intriguing in nature, this lack of competition can make for a
predictable and boring experience.
Sure, Bill Bryan is undoubtedly the world’s best skimboarder,
but what I’m looking to this season is overall team performances, as
they all chase the guy on the Vic. ZAP! has done on heck of a job over the last year
or so putting together a rock solid east coast/west coast contingent.
They are gonna be a fun team to follow this season, I guarantee
it. If they would only
change that name though. Slotstik is perfectly positioned to compete in
small waves, big waves, crappy waves and no waves.
With Brad Evers throwing down his technical stuff, George
Bryan’s consistency and Jeff Gomez’s
amazing big shorebreak skills, I’m sure we are going to see
this team mix it up, and I mean mix it up hard! What can you say about Victoria? They’ve got Bill. But they also have their name to live up to. You don’t ride for Victoria Skimboards unless you have graduated from advanced skim school. Brad Dickey is their new team coordinator and with his winning track record, the guys (and gal) will know what to expect. Their team is not only poised to win, but in a position to push the sport even more. That’s what Victoria has always been about, and I imagine that’s the course they will continue on. Let’s hope the judging is fair, the sportsmanship good, and the overall skim vibe preserved as we enter into a most critical juncture for this sport. May the best team win. SkimOnline.com thinks Sid has hit upon an interesting idea and has included team point stats in its 2001 UST Standings. |
