Bill Bryan Wins
East Coast Championships
August 14 , 2001

The Bill Bryan winning streak continued in Dewey Beach this past weekend as Bill proved yet again that no one comes close.  Yet other competitors are coming closer...  Jason Wilson continued his east coast tear by racking up second place in his home town.  Brad Evers was back in the finals and took third.  George Bryan skimmed solidly and earned a well deserved fourth place.

While the weather at this contest proved less than desirable, the waves were actually pretty good.  Most of the pro heats had very rideable waves and the finals took place in some of the best east coast conditions I have seen yet.  The weather was a little sketchy at times.  Friday's heat was unbearable for me.  I had never been in such heat/humidity before.  Luckily it was the end of the heat wave.  Saturday the competition was cut short due to a storm bearing down on the area.  Still, during the pro heats Sunday morning/afternoon the weather was great and we even got some sun just as the pro finals got underway (that helped with the pictures a lot).

All in all it was a fun contest.  Everybody was in good spirits.  The crowd was a little smaller than usual due to the weather but all the hardcores were still present.  It was cool to see Jason Wilson doing so well in his hometown.  He had one of the best cheering sections I think I have experienced yet.  Till next year...
