A split second after the photo on the right was snapped, so was Jus Martel's leg.  His fibula (in the lower leg) apparently decided that it has had enough frontside bashes like this for a while.  Jus is expected to miss most if not all of the contest season.

But don't count him out completely.  Around 1994 Bill Bryan experienced a similar break while trying a backside air at Aliso.  The break occurred sometime around April and while everyone was bummed for Bill, many were stoked that they would have a better chance at the Victoria contest that year.  But it wasn't to be.  In true Bill Bryan fashion, he made a miraculous recovery and in one of his first sessions back in the water defeated everyone and took first place, again.

Let's hope Jus has a similar recovery.
