1st Ever UK Skimfest Goes Off
October 8, 2002

Held over the weekend of 21/22 September, the Sandskater organized event, which was the first of it's kind to be held in the UK, turned out to be a huge success.

Around 100 people turned up each day to enjoy skimboarding and learn new tricks from the professional riders that had traveled over from the USA especially for the event. The weather was great, but the waves conditions were small (around 1ft). This didn't stop the pro riders showing exactly what was possible in the small waves, much to the delight of the UK skimboarders.

Zap Skimboards, who sponsored the event, had sent Drew Danielo over from Florida to give a demonstration. Bill Baxter, another Zap team rider, also flew to the UK, to do some skimming and also film the event for a new skim video he is making.

People had traveled from all over the UK to be at the skim fest. Skimmers had traveled from as far a field as  the Channel Islands, south Wales and London. The turnout was the largest ever collection of skimmers in one place in the UK.

Thanks must go to the following people for helping to make the event such a success:

Zap Skim'ers in Florida - especially Karen and James - for all the stuff they sent over to giveaway at the event.
Drew Danielo and Bill Baxter - for taking the time out to come to the UK to hang out with UK skimmers
Steve Pullara at Run Drop Slide - For all the advice and help on putting a skim event together
Everyone who turned up at the skim fest - thanks for supporting us!
Steve at Friar Tucks fish & chip shop - thanks for everything buddy!!
