Exile
500 Announced
April, 23 2003
When is the Exile contest? Good
question. Unfortunately I can't give you a solid answer. The
Exile contest will take place some time between May 2nd and May 18th
somewhere in South Laguna, conditions permitting.
That's right boys and girls, its a waiting period.
But things only get stranger from there on
out. First, there are no heats. There is one open
division. There will be three paid judges. Riders will be
scored on their top three waves of the session. The idea is to
push the riders to their limits, showing the best the sport has to
offer. The three riders with the three highest scores will each be
awarded $500. Hence the name, the Exile 500.
Here is a recap:
When: May 2nd - 18th (we will try and
make it on a weekend)
Who: Open to anyone with five $10 bills and a skimboard.
How Much: The entry fee is $50.00 you math wiz.
Where: South Laguna, exact location announced 24 - 36 hours
in advance on this website and at South Laguna Skate & Surf.
Why: If you have to ask...
But how's it going to work? There are quite a
few rules to keep things running smoothly, so pay attention.
OFFICIAL EXILE 500 RULES
-
These rules may be modified or amended before
the event using feedback
Skim Online readers.
-
Each rider may skim for no more than 2
consecutive hours. This is to ensure that everyone has a
reasonable chance of getting good waves throughout the day. It
is up to the riders to judge and time the crowd, wind, tide, and
waves, just like a real skim session.
-
The time of their first ride will be written
down on the scorecard. If they are still riding two hours
later they will be asked to leave the contest area. Subsequent
rides inside the contest area will cost them their highest score.
-
If all three judges agree that a rider is
taking to many waves and/or ignoring the friendly spirit of this
competition, their highest score will be deleted. All riders
will be expected to wait their turn. There may or may not be a
warning given.
-
Riders who are not in the contest are asked to
skim outside the 'contest area' to allow the contestants as much
room as possible.
-
The 'contest area' is everywhere where
contestants are skimming. Contestants are welcome to move down
the beach a little. Judges will do their best to catch
everyone's ride, but there are no guarantees, especially if you are
down the beach a ways.
-
Entry fees must be paid prior to getting in the
water. If you start skimming without paying, it is too
late. You are not eligible.
-
The session will start at a designated time or
when the judges are ready. It will last for no more than 6
hours.
-
Ties. In the somewhat likely event of a
tie, it will be broken by using the following criteria. Best 4
waves, then best 2 waves, then best 5 waves, 6 waves, 7 waves etc...
-
Got suggestions or a potential problem came to
mind. Let me know.
