Exile 500 Update

As many of you know we are now well into the waiting period for the Exile 500.

Unfortunately the large south swell we received at the end of April did quite a number on the sand situation in Laguna Beach.  West St looks like its not going to be working again any time soon.  Aliso has been fun lately, but nothing too special with the mix of small south swell and wind swell.  Currently we have a south swell scheduled for this weekend which should start showing late Sat night and into Sunday/Monday.  Unfortunately Sunday is mothers day which for some reason always seems to be one of the best days for skim each year.

We also have another long range forecasted south swell for the middle of the month which may or may not materialize.

And then there is the weather and tides of course.

The bottom line is that this contest will go on when the conditions look to be right (as best as we can predict anyway).  The primary focus of the competition is to have it in good to excellent conditions allowing the participants to exhibit the highest level of skimboarding.  So when everything appears to come together we will give the green light.  And if that means postponing the contest or lengthening the waiting period then that is what we will have to do.

Regardless, the contest will be announced on this website with as much advance notice as possible (probably the night before).  So if your in the area and don't want to miss it be sure you or one of your friends are frequently checking the website.

Exile 500 Background

The contest was started last year with the intent of creating an event where skimboarding was showcased in its best light with the most accomplished riders in the world skimming in unrestrained conditions.

Participation:  The contest is open to anyone but is recommended only for the top riders in the world.  This years entry fee will be $70.  Entry takes place on the beach.  Cash only.  Must be paid prior to getting in the water.

Location:  The contest is a roaming location event with the exact location determined by the conditions.

Dates:  This years waiting period is officially from May 1st through May 16th though this may be amended if the conditions do not materialize.

Judging:  Three judges will score rides on a scale from 0 - 10.  The top three rides will count.

Awards:  The top three finishers will each be awarded $500.  4th place will get his entry fee back so he doesn't get too bitter.
