Notes:
Erik has been skimboarding a long time. In fact, even
though he is younger than me, my first skimboard was one of his
old ones. I found it in a dumpster near my house when I
was about 7 years old. Some 15 years later Erik asked me
if I still had that board. When I asked him why he told me
that the Dolphin which was painted on the nose was drawn by none
other than Wyland himself. That board would be worth some
money today...
Erik was already hooked however and was skimming
ninth street daily from a young age. Mentors like Peter
Warrack helped keep him involved and equipped with the best
equipment available. He kept skimming Laguna until he
reached his early teens at which point his family picked up and
moved to Hawaii. While there he continued to skimboard
while becoming an accomplished surfer. Now he is back in
surfing and skimming Southern California.
Erik is known for being a good all around
skimboarder but a particularly good aerialist. He rides a
big board which allows him to get lots of speed and launch huge
airs. He doesn't always pull them, but he is pushing the
limits. In recent years Erik has been Bill Bryan's
stiffest competition placing second in the Victoria contest two
years in a row. He is relatively young too so he has a lot
of time to improve his skills and perhaps be the one who
eventually unseats Bill Bryan as the top competitor in the
world.
