Chile

Caleta Portales, Valparaiso

Skimboarding is arriving in Chile! This is the first of many beaches ideal for skimboarding that we (SouthPacific Skim... importers of skimboards) have found. We still have over 4,000 kilometers of coastline to try out in this country alone. Come help us!

On any given day you catch waves up to 6 feet or so. In the summer (January & February) The Beach can get crowded with menacing kids during the afternoon so try to avoid that. As far as the tides we haven't seen much difference in the waves.

PS. Keep an eye out for more spots in Chile as we continue exploring the coastline.

P.S.S  Watch out for thieves as they are known to stroll the beaches looking for unattended items.  Heads up!

Cau-Cau, V region

-english version:

cau-cau is the best beach for the skim that we have known in chili (but other exelentes like zapallar also exist, caleta portals, punta tralca, etc...), but at the moment they are many to visit and to travel, this beach sometimes has waves on 2 meters (6 feet) and enter 3 meters (7,5 feet) when this good one, also has a tip in the bank that makes that these waves always run very tubular and that wave get smaller during it runs , reason why there are waves for all the skimers levels.

this beach is located in the V chili region, in the orcon town (quite well-known, to if that is easy to found), at 1,45 hours of santiago in car. You can also go in bus.

we wait for you in cau-cau.

Punta de tralca is such a good beach for skimboarding, with different kinds of waves, some times of 2 or, when  its very good, 3 meters. Most of the time, the waves in punta de tralca aren't very tubular, but its always run a lot and they are very strong.. Punta de tralca have some problems too, like in some places there are some hidden stones.

This beach is hubicated in the VI region of chili, down the Punta de tralca Church. You also can stay there an its very cheap or if you have luck is free.

This beach is hubicated in a small town that have the same name of this beach, Punta de tralca, and its very beautiful and small. This Town is around 2 hours to the south of santiago of chile, the main city.

Renaca

Reñaca is maybe the most known beach in Chile. It has a very good and long sand space for skim. There are 5 spots in all the beach. The 1st one is very good, some days you can find waves between 1 and 2 meters(3-6 feets). The 2, 3 and 4 are just the same. It's flat and the wave comes very fast. But these 3 sectors are not very good. The 5th spot is like the best one. There you can find good waves, but the bad thing of the spot is that is too deep, so it's slower for skimboard. This beach is very pretty and in summer it gets very crowded so is better if you come in the morning where you can meet Chilean surfers. Here you can find good beaches, like Reñaca, Cau-Cau, Caleta Portales(in the V Region) or tropical views in the north of Chile, like Totoralillo(IV Region) and a lot of beaches in the Ist, IInd and IIIrd Region.

This beach is in the north of Viña del Mar. To go there, you can go by bus. You can take the 111 bus and the bus leaves you in Reñaca. If you take that one, you must walk a few blocks. The Bus costs between 40 and 60 american cents(250 or 450 chilean pesos). If you go by your own car and you are coming from Viña del Mar, you only have to go to the north by the coast. Then is very easy. You can see a lot of signals.  If you want to stay in Reñaca, you have a lot of places to choose. Hotels, Huts. You can find campings too.In winter(june, september) is going too be much easier to find places to sleep, and cheaper too. In summer(january, february) comes too many people and gets very crowded. If you rent a hut, you can find in Reñaca everything to stay. But the problem is that Reñaca doesn't have a skimboard shop. The most known is in Viña del Mar called Tropico near a big mall.

19 Norte

I tried this Spot last Sunday. Some pros tried it in January so I figured It should be good. We got there when the tide was already rising and we caught some nice waves. Some where a little too far for amateurs but in general I think this spot is great. Given the right tides I think there should be a nice right side wash. We will have to ride it more to find the perfect conditions. Be ware of fisherman that leave lines with hundreds of hooks. No crowds. (meaning tourists, we still don't have skimer crowds) Gay Beach.

If you are in Santiago, either drive or take a bus straight to Viña which is about 1 hour and 20 minutes west. Once in Viña head north towards "Reñaca",  on the coast highway. You will be riding along a beach on your left then you will notice a navy base entrance on your right just after a stop light. Right in front of it there is a Rock Point. To the south of it you have 19 Norte. There is Parking right in front of the Spot.

Algarrobo Norte

This spot is only for kamikazes, so only come here if you have a death wish! The rips are really strong, the waves huge. Hundreds of people have died here, so swimming isn't allowed in this beach. Tip: if one day you feel like committing suicide, don't bother, just come here.

From Santiago, go to ALgarrobo. Once there, take the main street north until you get to Algarrobo norte.
