Dana Point
Strands
My home beach for skimming has Strands in Dana Point. This
beach was
were I learned how to skimboard. Since the waves change so much,
the beach
can be flat with a constant layer of thin water allowing you to practice
tricks and then it changes over night to a steep cut up beach which
allows
you to catch some waves. In addition this beach is pretty long allowing
you
to change location on the same beach and have different shore break
styles.
During the summer the beach can packed with tons of people at the
shore,
making you have only a small area near the far right lifeguard stand on
the
small jetty. Right when high school starts up the beach is usually empty
with
barely anyone there allowing you to have the whole beach.
To get to Strands all you need to do is go on Pacific Coast Highway
(Highway 1) to the street Selva make a right (if heading south) or a
left (if
heading north). There is a street on your right called Dana Strands the
stair
to the beach are at the end of that street. To park you can park on the
street or in the parking lot which is the next right after Dana Strands.
