The gulf coast as written by Steve Pullara

I'm from Tampa but live in Vilano bch. I hold the Florida Skimboarding Pro/Am
every year in Vilano. I would love nothing better than to let people know were
to go but don't have access to the web on a daily basis. I will say that the
best breaks on the gulf are : The jetty in Destin in the Panhandle, Emerald
Green water with a pretty constant swell. Panama City near the Holliday Inn
pier, same beautiful water .the Ramada Inn Near Johns Pass south of Madiera
bch., this is some of the deepest water on the gulf, I would say the best
place to prepare as well as learn advanced wave riding on the gulf. Venice
jetty (home to Zap Skimmers) another nice deep water break. Clearwater bch. is
a great place to learn flatland (freestyle) skimming plus as a bonus at the
holiday day inn they will serve you drinks right on the beach that's a plus!.
Now lets really go skimming, The east-coast, Vero bch has a nice
shorebreak, their locals do real well at my contest every year. Sabastian was my
second home out of high school (check old skim magazines plenty of pics of me
there) both sides of the inlet are good but if you ask Tex he'll agree the
southside (monster hole) is stronger plus Spanish House,S.B.I.,old Chuck's
Steakhouse, as well as Melbourne boardwalk. move north and Patrick's Air Force
base is good, keep a look out for stray missiles, from here to Marine land is
flat (Great out-side Surf) now let's talk about Vilano, a natural inlet, very
deep water right off beach, a constantly shifting shoal makes for the BEST,
most CONSISTENT, as well as LARGEST shorebreak in FLORIDA (some people call it
a mini ALISO) Bill Bryan and Keith Peery got to ride it this year at the contest and
had a lot of fun. Further north is Crossroads at Ponte Vedra a nice break plus
if you golf your at T.P.C., Jax bch. is flat (great surf) further north is
Fernadina bch, I would say this area would be third on the east coast, nice
deep water.

Siesta Key - Saratosa, FL
  -  Siesta Key is a fairly good spot to skim in the cooler seasons of the year. My friends and I go almost everyday to skim there, it is very unpredictable though. You would want to go when the tides are low if you want sand. If the tides are high, you may be able to catch some waves. The best time to go there though is during a storm, or a cold front in the gulf. The waves are huge and the shore break is high, you may want to be careful though because the temperature will drop very low. Also there can be alot of people or a sparse amount, all depending on when you go and where along the beach you skim. If you're ever in the Sarasota area and want to skim, give me a email.

Spanish river or 40th street Boca Raton Florida  . Boca Raton is south of
west palm beach get off at the glades road  exit on i95 and go east until
you hit federal highway make a left or go north on federal  about 5 miles up
is Spanish river blvd. Make a right at 40th street  park on the side of the
street or on the other side of the bridge . for the best skimming high tides
is a must because when the tide is low the sand bars ruin it the best times
to skim here is when the swell is about 2 - 3 foot but also decent when there
s a chop but definitely not as fun so hope for a tropical storm cold front or
sometimes when the thunder storms are strong enough afterwards a swell might
be around for a short time . no special features but right down the boardwalk
throw the board in the water .

SOUTH DEERFIELD OR TRESPASS  is  good also during storms hurricane swell and
cold front breaks good and kinda good sized at time s high tides is awesome
but low tide maybe skim able as well there are some features about this
beach its all a resort unless you go passed embassy suites hotel
jump down the small rock cliff where there are no life guards because they
don't like skimboarders very much  .

south of Boca Raton on 95 get off at the Hillsboro blvd exit go east
take hills boro blvd until you come to A1A AND go right about 100 yard s on
the left if an embassy suites go left and you there park at anyone of the
meters and walk to the south of the hotel beach and there's the spot we call
trespass  there are hardly anyone ever here you should have the whole beach
to your self unless a couple of Canadians are looking for shells or something
there are some rocks but wont come into play during high tide but low tide
just maneuver around them not a place to make a day trip of or nothing but
I've been going to a beach off huttichetson island where the last 3 weekends
have been a true head high on shore I'm in the process of gathering info on
that and will get back to you also juno beach and jupiter cove but I'm not
positive on directions peace out and keep skimming Brian at aol bmb76

North Fort Lauderdale

@ the commercial pier "anglans", there is a good flat beach where it is
easy to get out on to the water, even for newbies) the swells get to
about 3 ft swells and we have made a break off the shoreline so @
low tide it jumps to about 6 ft. the major drawback of this site (other
than tiny swells) is that there are a lot of people there, but there are a
lot of skimmers and some cool people.

I-95 to Commercial Blvd. go east to the beach, you will see the pier and
a large bronze statue of gulls.

St Augustine, Vilano Beach

Just a few minutes from the oldest city in America lies a great skim spot.  Vilano beach is just across A1A from the old city of St. Augustine.  It's a typical Florida break, with a generous sloping beach (consisting mostly of coquina; shelly sand) and small drop-off.  The waves break right on shore and are  decently sized most of the year, with the largest I've seen about 4 feet.  (I'm sure the true locals can clarify this if needed)  Conditions are best with little wind.  A jetty lies at the South end of the beach near the Vilano inlet.  The waves peel best here, but just about anywhere north down the beach is good (away from fishermen).  Definitely get to Vilano at high tide.

If you find your way into the historic city of St. Augustine, you're very close to Vilano beach.  Drive north away from the city on San Marco Blvd.  You will eventually see an intersection with a sign pointing you right towards A1A and Vilano Beach.  Turn right and cross the high bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway.  At the light for A1A, turn right again and left where straight is no longer an option.  You can park right at the beach across from a motel or drive onto the beach for a small fee during business hours.  The toll collector can provide you with a tide chart for that month.

Florida Panhandle

The Florida Panhandle - Destin, Fort Walton Beach, Pensacola, and Perdido
Key are on a series of barrier islands. The sands move a lot and skim
spots must be searched out so spots change from year to year. Typically
reachable fun waves are from knee to waste high - on a rare (and I do
mean rare) tide we do get reachable chest to shoulder high waves - one
trick waves - don't expect anything in the form of a workable line. The
most consistent skim spot along this coast is probably located in Perdido
Key which is on the Florida Alabama Boarder.  The slope on the beach
allows for breaks to appear along this stretch of beach... Anywhere from
late March to October fun skim waves can be found - early morning (wind
is usually lighter) and high tide will produce best results. Remember
that this is the Gulf of Mexico (although we typically have the biggest
and best waves in the Gulf) our surf season is in the Winter and our
Summer season can be non-existent - but we do have our moments and fun
spots in between.

All of the Panhandle spots are right off of HWY 98 - which runs along the
coast from Panama City. FL to Gulf Shores, AL.

East Jetty, Destin Florida

Even though this part of Florida is not the best for
skimming, if you know when and where to go you can make a fairly good
day of skimboarding while your here. Destin, Florida is probably your
best bet for good skim. It's a place called the east jetty for reasons
you can guess. Destin is located in NW Florida 55 miles west of Panama
City and 5 miles east of FT. Walton Beach. Get on highway 98,west from
Panama City or east from Ft. Walton Beach, and drive to Destin. Once there
go to a road called Gulf Shore Drive which is right off of Hwy 98.There
is a Texaco at the corner and the road is on a resort called Holiday
Isle in case you get lost. Now when you get on this road comes the fun
part. You have two choices:1.Drive to one of the resorts and ask if you
can park there or 2.Drive all the way to the end of the road and park on
the side somewhere. Either way you have a hike ahead of you. The rest of
the directions are easy. Just walk to the rocks .

Skimboarding is not very big around here so you don't have to worry
about crowds. The best time to skim is during high tide either before or
after a storm or during a south southeast wind. The surf reports aren't
really helpful because sandbars are a pain around here. They are very
close to shore mostly so wait till high tide if you can. I've seen 3 and
a half foot breaks next to the jetty on good days and flat as a lake on
bad.

Sebastian Inlet

I can tell you about some other spots in Florida that are not on your
web sites.  There's Sebastian Inlet which is known for a good surfing
spot.  The beaches there are really steep so you can build up a lot of
speed.  Occasionally if the tide is right and the surf is not too big
the shorebreak is killer.  It is a pretty heavy wave.

Cameron Cove

All right,  first we have Cameron Cove which is located in Indian Rocks
Beach, home of WCT rippers Shea and Cory Lopez. You'll  notice at first
all the groms and our older crew busting out all the sick airs that that
the Lopez brothers do around the globe. To get to Cameron Cove just
take Gulf Bulv.  north until you get to 26th ave. You will know your
there when you see every car in the parking lot with ...Lost  stickers
on them. This break is very good on a south swell but seems to get good
on a north depending on the tide. To high of a tide at the cove means
sizeable waves that don't break, and to low of a tide means your stepping
on rocks on the way out to the offshore skim. The best time is usually a
mid tide either way. To make sure your session isn't cut short, take
along some Sun Cure for those rock dings. Cameron Cove is also known by
the locals as a graveyard to some boards, some just don't make it back
home after a real good session!!!

Semi-Secret Spot

Now what you have been waiting for, Team Soul's undisclosed training
grounds. All I can tell you about this place is its sick, and only
skimmed by Team Soul and very few, but fortunate rippers from Indian
Rocks Beach that had to go through some very intense  hazing rituals to
learn where this spot is and how hard it throws out. Unlike Cameron Cove
this place gets silly on high tide. Depending on the swell and which way
its angled depends on what kind of skim there is. North swells  usually
consist of down the line skimming which require a series of  S-turns and
stalls just so you don't run the wave out. Gets very hallow on a big
north swell in the winter. South swells get pretty sick little sections
for airs but usually its cleaner and the shape is better at the
Cove. West swells mean sick wraps into big tubes on soft sand.  Summer
swells require that late day westerly sea breeze to kick up a swell, or
right after a thunder storm it gets classic. How to get there still
remains a secret and the only thing I can tell you is that its in
Treasure Island, FL.  If you work up some respect at the Cove you might
have a local spill his guts  about this place.

Blind Pass in Between Sanible and Captiva

This is the best break i've found in the Sw Florida.  It has the best wave riding around. The best spot on the beach is right at the rocks theres a little cusp on the north side the rocks.  You can ride out and back in and while doing a couple of tricks along the wave.  It's best at low rising to high tide is when you get the best waves.  The best time of the year is late spring and early fall.  I'v found this the best spot down here so if your a local or if your just there and want to skim for a day this is the place to come for waves and jumps.  I woudn't plan a whole skim vacation around this spot but defently come here if you want some decent skimming.

To get to Blind pass you want to take Summerlin out to the island of Sanible(just follow the signs the say Sanible Captiva that a way.  It's a three dollar toll to this island over the overpass to the best skimmin around.  Once on the island take a right at the stop sign.  Go north on Periwinkle for some 12 miles or so and youll see a small overpass and a parking lot on the right hand side(ocean side) turn in there.  Look for the rocks and head for the right side of them to find the best break i've found in Sw Florida. If you find any other good or decent ones email me them Please!

Anna Maria Island - Bradenton, FL

Anna Maria Island, in Bradenton, FL has some of the best deep water skim around because of its long, wide beach, and sudden drop-off, and smooth glassy waves. Your best bet would be to contact a weather report or surf report before making the trip here, but I guarantee that if its up and its kickin'...you wont be disappointed!!!  (MAP)

Dunedin Causeway

Its located on the west coast of Florida, There is no real good wave rides here cause it’s the west coast but this state park has some of the best sand rides around. During low tide there are half inch puddles of water like 10 feet wide and 60 feet long, all year round.

From the south take us Alternate 19 north till you get to Curlew Road, take a left and go all the way to the state park, or from the north take US 19 south to Curlew road then take that west all the way to the park. there a small fee of like 4 bucks per car....But if your are a cheapass you can hop a fence.....then go to the east side of the park where "dog beach" is.....there’s plenty of signs.....Also if your cheap and it low tide, befor you get to the park on the left there are good spots for free. also if your going to go here give me a email Jak1357@tampabay.rr.com maybe we can hook up.

Longboat Key - Bradenton FL

Okay ya'll, this is for all of you speed skimmers out there. This is a great place for flat waters and a beautiful view. I go down there about twice a year and it is great. There are no crowds and it's a GREAT place for beginners. About once a week you get good waves if you're into aerials and such. Well, hope to see some people out there, peace.

Well, Longboat Key is south of Bradenton, FLA. The place where I skim is around the condo, "The Shore". The HoliDome is around there too. Almost everywhere in Longboat Key is great, so just find your way there and you'll be cool, see ya.

Saratosa FL

Sarasota is a good place to skim.  As you can see. turtle beach, siesta beach, lido beach, north and south, the list goes on and on. the only problem with Sarasota skim is that it is off and on. One day it is flat the next you have 3 to 5 foot shore break.  This makes it hard to skim everyday or every couple days for that matter.  Oh well, it is nice and most of us locals are more than willing to help a skimmer in need. well if your in the Sarasota area hope to see you skimmin'. if you are local and would like to be a part of a sarasota skim club e mail me at ehornagold@hotmail.com

you can reach Sarasota from i 75 all exits are clearly marked.  Each will tell you were the beaches, food, gas stations and hotels are. see you there!!!!!!!

Fort Meyers Beach

This is a great skim spot for both flat land skimming, and surf style. Any time of year is good for skimming, especially the winter season because that is when the waves reach about 4 ft and break close to the beach for an easy ride out to hit the waves.. However, in the summer this spot can become crowded as tourists flock to this area. One of the other drawbacks is that the sand in the water is made mostly of broken shells, which can hurt if you fall and land on them. Overall though, this is one of the better spots on the east coast, and is actually holding a tournament at this exact spot this month. (June)

From Naples, or Bonita Springs, just take 41 until you reach Bonita Beach Road, then head south until you pass Bonita Beach.  Then continue on, passing a lot of condos and resort areas, until you come to a sharp right hand bend where there is a surf shop called East Coast Surf Shop. Park in that area (there are a lot of areas to park) and head down towards the gigantic pier.

Juno Beach

I have been skimming Juno pier for about 3 years now and it is great at low tide. During the weekends, holidays, or summer this spot is mildly to overcrowded, that's why I go late winter once the last few fronts are coming through. High tide is good if you like riding a sloped beach.

Take I95 to Donald Ross Rd. which is about 20 min north of west palm beach. Head east til the end comes. Turn left. Go a few minutes down the road until you come to Marcinski Rd. or the pier (you'll see the pier first). Walk down to southern side of pier @ low tide and have a nice day.

Naples, FL

I live in Naples Fl and there is rarely any waves here so me and my friends usually end up skimboarding. Naples has some ok skim and surf sometimes. The city has recently begun to dredge Wiggins pass.  There is a little peninsula created by the increase in water flow lately and there are the most perfect little barrels that I have seen for a shorebreak in Naples. When the swell gets big the tubes are big enough to get barreled and they are A frames so its good for both regular and goofy foot skimmers. watch out for the current in the pass if u go. It REALLY RIPS.

Panama City Beach

Well u can basically skim anywhere u want in this part of Florida its all gravy. The sand is crystal clean and the population is not all that big so u can bust your azz in peace knowing that only a few people saw it.

Just drive down highway 98 into Panama City, FL and get onto Front Beach Road from one of the hundreds of side roads. Depending on traffic, the ride can be fast or slow. If it is spring break time, expect the strip (Front Beach Road) can be quite chunky, so pack a lunch. From there park somewhere walk a whole 20 feet to the beach and ride to your hearts content.

Thomas Drive Park, Panama City

Well its typical for skimmers around here. We all have made it out to this coast a few times, and we always try to swing by Mr. Surfs. Surf Shop! The shore break is awesome here, its got a great slope and the water is usually crystal clear. All along Thomas drive are about three great skim spots... St. Andrews (jettys), Thomas drive park, and pinaple- Willy’s- there was a skim jam here!!, well bring the skim on out here its awesome!!

Get on 98... take it west to panama city beach!! then once you get off the halthaway bridge.. take a right on Thomas drive and go directly to the beaches... It’s a bit of a decision where to go... I suggest St. Andrews state park! its always nice!

Navarre Beach

Navarre Beach is THE best skim spot that I have been to on the gulf.  Venice is cool and so is Panama city but Navarre has the biggest and most consistent sets I've seen in the gulf.  Perdido Key gets a little bigger but is not near as consistent.  The best time to go is 3-4 hours before and and hour after high tide.  Make sure the surf is up at least knee high everywhere else before you go.  I'm not talking knee high skim sets.  Knee high surf sets and you will have waist high sets on shore.  What makes it break so well is that we don't have those damn sand bars so close to shore so the swell gets to form up on the beach.  We have caught head high sets on rare occasions but it is always fun and can line up for a good 4-5 second ride.  It may not sound like much but look where your at.  Right now Navarre is blackballed from Mar.1st to Oct 31st but here is the funny part.  There are only life guards from June to August from 10-5.And the ban is ONLY at Navarre Beach next to the pier.  If you drive down the street to some of the other  <cut off in email...>

Navarre sits between Ft. Walton Bch and Pensacola.  From Ft Walton get on hwy 98 west and drive 15 minutes.  You will see the sign for Navarre Bch and take a left on their bridge and go srtaight and your there.  You can make a right at the stop sign and find other spots if the guards kick you off.  But if you go past the towers 300 feet they won't bother you.  So follow the directions and welcome to redneck heaven and the gulf's best skim spot.

Sand Pebble Beach, Treasure Island

This it THE most consistent, largest sets of waves anywhere in the central gulf coast.  It is always 3-5 feet, if not worse.  I consider myself a pretty damn good skimboarder, and can ride a wave like a little bitch with unusual consistency, but these waves made me feel like a five year old with a woody.  If you are here you WILL get thrown on your face with some force, as my dear friend Ian found out for me.  Anyone heading here or anywhere in the area, contact me and we'll cut up some waves.

Well depending on where you are we are obviously going to have different instructions, so I'll give it basic.  If your anywhere in the area, look for Indian Rocks Beach, Redington Beach, or Clearwater Beach, which shouldn't be too hard...  Look for an amazingly large and incredibly stupid tourist trap known as John's Pass.  Just south of that about 2 miles you will find the beach there is like no other.  You may need to look up and down the beach a little to find your 'sweet spot', but it didn't take me too long. If you are looking for a good skim/surf shop there is the next best thing to the Ron Jon surf shop.  As you are heading south from John's Rip Off, look on your left for a 2 story wooden building sometimes called the Suncoast Surf Shop.  Happy Skimming

North Jetty, Nokomis

This is the best skim spot on the west coast, you can find skimmers there every day. The skim is always good, especially when it starts getting cooler around October. Everyone out there is using a ZAP skimboard, since the factory is right there.

Turning off i75 going south, turn right before publix, go al the way down and take a left, then go all the way down that road and turn right and go over the bridge, then make a left and go all the way down that road, and the beach is on your right.

Also if you go to where the water from the inlet peters off to the side closest to the open water there will be another great spot that i had some really bitchin rides on!

Alls you do is go out towards Marco Island and you cant miss it, aight? If you have any questions, or complaints, you can contact me at my email. K?

Take a1a south u will see a brown wall separating the side walk from the sand follow this wall till u see these signs on the sand that say "surfing area" stay on the out side of those signs and u have found the sight

Get to perdido key either from sorrento (when sorrento hits bauer take sorrento west to the next light continue straight over the bridge and take the first left after the reef [a bar] keep going straight. there is a fee of like $6 a car good for a week or like $2 a person but anual passes are available go through the gate, skip the first right and staop at the second boardwalk, walk right along the beach) from alabama get into gulf shores and take the scenic route east to florida and turn right, right before the reef and read above .

Mexico Beach

I have skimmed up and down the panhandle, in Navarre, Ft. Walton, Destin(East Jetty and Miramar Beach have good days), Panama City, Pensacola.  With all of these spots, you just have to get lucky, some days are great, some days suck.  My recent favorite spot is Mexico Beach, which lies in an arc shaped area west of Panama City and just east of St. Joseph's island.  The fact that it is set back a little from the surrounding coast makes the waves come in in longer lines, and the gradual slope of the shore bottom allows for pretty consistent sets of accessible breaks.  They usually run knee to waist high, especially in favorible conditions.  I have had good days at low and high tide, but like all of the panhandle, some days you just strike out with no breaks at all.  Go between mid-April and late September or you'll be in the cold.  This is a fun spot to skim on a good day, though.

The locals there are mostly retired, and they love to watch skimmers and chatter, so be friendly and enjoy yourself, and you'll fare well.  There's one restaraunt on the beach and one hotel, the El Governor, which I hear has real good rates for a waterfront hotel ($40+).  There's not much else, just good skim.  When driving through this area, bring a board and check it out!!

Directions:

1) From Panama City, go east on Hwy. 98. You'll run right into it.

2) From Hwy 20 (runs between Tallahassee and Niceville), or from I-10 (which is north and parallels 20), go south on Hwy 71.  Take state road 386 west, around 20 miles S of Blountstown.  After 15 miles, this runs right into 98 at the east end of Mexico Beach, so go about 1/4 mile west on 98 and you're at a beach.

This spot is good because of the way the waves break onto shore. It is also good for the speed skimmers.  Waves sometime get big enough to where u can cut back and ride them in.Its more of a speed skmmer heaven though.  The breaks get really good sometimes though.

Take manatee ave all the way to the public beach.turn right and follow the road until u reach white avenue.its about 2 miles down and on ur left!!!!

Fort Pickens Point, Pensacola

This is definitely the best skimboarding spot on Pensacola Beach.  It is right on the pass, so it drops off really deep.  It is best on a high tide with a 1-3-4 ft swell and offshore winds. The point is great for wave riding and sand surfing.  Also great point break for surfing.

It is pretty easy to find. From Pensacola, get on hwy. 98 to Pensacola Beach(There is a 1$ toll to get on the beach.) Turn left toward Fort Pickens and go all the way to the end of the road and park by the fishing pier at Fort Pickens.  Walk along the shore of the bay, until the beach curves into the Gulf of Mexico(about a 300yd walk), and there it is. crowds are pretty much non-existent because skimboarding is not really big here, if there is anyone skimming it is probably me or a few of my friends.

Fred Howard Park\Beach, Tarpon Springs

This spot is great, there are no waves so this spot is great for flat ground trick skimming. There is usually no people on the South West side (which is the best part to skim). The sand is very soft, and its pretty shallow and flat ground. So if your visiting Tarpon Springs come check this spot out!

Ask some one at a local gas station in Tarpon Springs Florida where Tarpon Springs Middle School is. Then once you get those directions follow them, once you get to the Middle School, Go trough the flashing red lights and head north. Follow that street into the park adn keep following the road. Once you get out of the park and are on the Cause way go all the way down until you get to the furthest parking lot. Look to your left rite before the parking lot and you'll see the skim spot. Enjoy

Johnson's Beach, Pensacola

This spot is normally good. The waves here range from anywhere from knee high to chest high. Normally it is around waist high. The best time to go is when the tide is high they are easier to reach. You can get one trick in or two if it good.

To get too Johnson's beach you go down hwy98 til you get to Blue Angel parkway. Follow Blue Angel till you get to Gulf beach hwy you will come to a light (there will be a Burger King across from the light) take left at the light it will still be gulf Beach hwy. Go over the bridge you will come to a big curve (there will be a pink building on the left) turn there at the building go into to the state park. Go to the third board walk. THAT IS WHERE IT IS!!!!!

Boynton Beach, Boynton FL

The waves are excellent. The best season to skim is winter at low tide.

Go to the lantana inlet. The beach on the left side. Walk about 20 feet along the beach  to the left until you reach a flat and almost level part of the beach.

Sandbar Beach, Anna Maria Island, Holmes Beach, FL

Sandbar Beach is an inconsistent spot, but it can be good. I go there every spring and It gets better every year. There is a small shelf just at the breaking point. It keeps getting steeper, so the waves keep getting bigger. This year, I was working with knee high waves, right on shore. The shelf however is sort of a blessing and a curse. It gives you the waves, and makes it so if you fall, it's not right on sand, but the shelf can get in your way sometimes. The beach is also pretty shelly, but tit's a fun spot to just screw around. If you're in the area, check it out.

Jupiter Inlet, Jupiter Florida

Jupiter Inlet is a sick skim break at high tide.  When a big swell comes in like 6-8foot its usually about 4-6foot on shorepound.  The beach is very steep due to erosion so its a fast decline.  In summer months Hurricanes slide by bringing in big sick glassy waves not to mention 80+ degree water.  Watch out for tourists on styrofoam bodyboards they are a big hazard here.  Also after a big swell the inlet builds up sand in it making half of it dry sand on the north side.  On a good sized north swell with a south chop on it it breaks along this beach coming in at a 90 degree angle a virtually perfect left in 10 inches of water.  How does that sound all you wave hungry skimmers!  See you at the inlet.

If you come off 1 95 go east on indiantown road untill you come to A1A.Make a left on A1A go north for a quarter mile and you'll see a CIRCLE K make a right on that first road go another quarter mile and wala your at a rippin' little break.

Stuart Beach, Stuart Florida

This beach is pretty good all year round, but usually around late summer to early fall is the best. The break isn’t bad or is it good. If you’re looking for a nice beach with ok skim than this is the one. Go early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid large crowds. There isn’t anything to worry about like rocks or reefs. See ya there.

Go east on East Ocean Blvd till you get to a fire station, there will be a road right after the fire station, make a right there. Hopefully you'll be able to find a parking spot.

Cocoa Beach, Cocoa Beach Florida

Cocoa beach is an awesome place to skim. This is where they hold the zap skim'ers tournaments. The waves are consistently skimmable, and usually fun. Just be careful for surfers because there's plenty of them. Even for beginners, this is an awesome spot to skim.

Go north on I 95, when you see the sign for Cocoa beach, just follow directions.

Tarpon Springs, Florida

All right you are very lucky. If some one finds out i gave this spot away on the net my life is in danger. But if you’re like me and you live in Pinellas county and you like to skim nice, full 3-6 foot consistent shorebreak this is the place to be. It’s right down the street from my house so I skim there about 4-6 times a week for about the last 2 years. i must say of all the times I’ve skimmed here there’s only been about 10 times that i been skunked for waves. There’s some deep underwater dredge right off the beach that carries waves in with extreme power. it throws up about a 4 foot wave (on average) that come in breaks right in the middle and you can take your pick of going north on it which is a point break like ride for about 20 feet. Should you pick to go left (south) you must have balls because this is a thick dumpy barrel that if you wipe out on you'll be spitting out shells for a few days.

From anywhere in Pinellas County take US 19 north into tarpon springs. Make a left at Martin Luther King blvd. and take this all the way down until you pass alt. 19 further on to an unusual looking 4 way stop that is right in front of a bayou. Take a left and go around the bayou till you get to gulf road, which is the last, left. Take this past tarpon springs high school through the light and all the way down, you'll see the park entrance which is Sunset park, go and park and walk out on to the beach directly in front of the rest rooms to which you'll find the grueling old' wave. Skim for hours. Have fun and don’t tell anyone where you found out. Ya dig?

White Ave., Anna Maria Island Florida

White Ave. is the most illest spot to skim at. Good breaks, not choppy, hot chicks, lots of skimmers. White Ave. is where me and all my friends go and skim and hang out and have fun...Sometimes we get big crowds out there... It is a good place for experienced skimmers.

Take Manatee Ave. (west) all the way down till you see west coast surf shop and the public beach. Take a right. You'll be on 85th. And then go all the way down till you see white ave. and then take a left on white ave. and take the lil’ dirt trail to the beach...

Holmes Beach

The waves usually average 2-4 with some strong power to them. There is a slope going to the water which allows for a drop off into deeper water when you fall. The maker of EZ skimmers skims here. The best tide is high tide because the waves break closer. The best season is anytime from October through March.

You get on Manatee ave take it all the way to the beach to west coast surf shop. There should be an eckerds right before you hit the beach

The Poles

Nice bar break.  It's best about 2-4 hours before and after high tide before it becomes too fat and is either just flat land with far out waves, or just too fat.  Nice waist-chest shorebreak.  ALMOST as good as what Vilano USED to be...

Head down Mayport Road towards the Navy Base and follow the sign to Hannah Park on the right.  Pay a buck to get in and follow the signs to Beach Entrance 1.  The skim is OK there, but is best about 100 yards down where the waves break on the shore....

Boca Inlet

The best spot to skim around the inlet is just to the south. It works the best on north winter swell. The best I have seen it break is in the 3-4 foot range. It is very glassy on any north wind because jetty usually blocks the wind.Good spot for airs and small wraps. Hardly any people at all.

Get off I-95 at Palmetto PRKY and head east until you get to A1A. Make a right on A1A. Go over the inlet and park in the lot on the south side of the inlet. It is kind of hidden by trees so keep your eyes peeled.

Siesta Key and Lido Beach

So its flordia, not the best surf... especially when we are talking about the gulf... but Sarasota does have a few good places to go skimming.  My favorite two spots are siesta key, which provides nice skim waves during incoming high tide, and Lido beach, right after low tide, when high starts coming in.  Now I’m the kind of skimmer who doesn't ride out and try to ride the wave back... that's pointless around here. However, if you want to have some nice waves to launch off of and get some pretty nice air, maybe a few grabs and a kickflip, then check out these beaches. Just be aware of the shells, siesta has become a lot more shelly over the years, and lido is kind of the same, but the water gets deep quickly there, so usually there is a good 1 1/2-2 ft of water.

Siesta:  I75 to bee ridge, left onto Siesta Dr., over bridge, left at light (fork in road) right at next light. follow the signs if u get lost :)
Lido:  Just get to 41 in Srq, then go over Ringling causeway bridge, the big mother of Srq bridges, follow to St. Armands circle, follow signs to lido beach, hit up N. lido, if that sucks, go to the south.

SECRET SPOT IN PANAMA CITY

This spot is great but unless your familiar with Panama City it can be difficult to find this place is where the bay enters the ocean near Pinnacle port resort. It is heaven you can get the best of both worlds. First there is the hugest flat spot(actually it is a little angled you get huge speed) ever that spans about 250 feet (no Lie) I have pulled skims that seemed like they were lasting for hours and you can skim right into the bay which is awesome cause your skimming on like an inch of water and all of sudden you go to like 2 feet of water once you hit the bay there’s a little ridge that runs on the side and when you get some big waves it makes for awesome air(it makes kind of like a drop off thing) and the other part of the skim spot is on the ocean side where you get an awesome long down grade for speed and huge waves(on good days) you can get like 20 feet out in the ocean and gain some huge air of the waves my friend almost landed on his neck he got like 10 ft+ air. There’s so much more I can say but I’m tired of typing you need to check it out for yourself I have skimmed all over Panama city and Destin and also Mexico beach and this is by far the best.

OK directions if you live in Panama city this will be easy ok if your coming in panama city from Ebro (the main way) go straight and take a right on front beach road and go like your going towards Destin and you should be going towards Winn Dixie and bills crab shack once you go past Carillion shopping center and pinnacle port resort you should cross the bridge over the bay look to the left and you can see pinnacle port and the skim spot!! (Pinnacle Port is the massive condo. building followed by 5 other smaller buildings that you always see when your going over the bridge) once over the bridge I’m not sure what to tell you try to take the first left and get as close to the beach as you can you may have some hiking to do.{Easier Ways} the easier ways would be to go through pinnacle port resort but you might need a pass or the easiest is if you have a boat you can pull right to it. Anyways once your close look for the old broken pier and the point where the bay enters the sea and your there!!

Redington Breakwater

It’s a good place to skim, for beginners and good skimmers.  It always is breaking here, even on the flatest day, its breaking onshore, and not pushing like IRB.  If you catch it on the right day you can get some massive barreling lines.  The rocks also make a diff., if its north winds, the south side is clean, if its south winds the north side is good.  And sometimes if you get the right north west swell, it can break right off the rocks into a little wedge.  Usually people never skim here on a good spot, but being 15 the closest spot is Redington.  There’s also Sand Key, that can just get so gnarly on the right conditions. Sand key is probably my favorite spot to skim, with right onshore waves that can get some good size and have power behind them. Back to Redington, yeah its an awesome spot if you get it right. And be warned, lots of stingrays, there’s a bunch agro rocks, but they are surrounded by little pillar thingies, and there are many kooks, little kids, or pissed off parents.  Almost everyday, some dumb-ass parent yells at us, cause we were going down the line next to their kid you sprayed their kid in the face, which is funny.

Go down Gulf till you see a sign that says Redington. I think it is 183rd.  You can come off the Park bridge and get to it.  There’s parking and you have to pay, but if you like us, you can park by the playground, or along the streets.
