Green Hill Beach The best spot (in Rhode Island) is called Green Hill beach. It's the best spot that I've been for skimboarding. It's tough to tell if it'll be good, even with the tides. It all depends. When there have been large waves the beach gets too sloped and at high tide the back wash is death. At low tide there are sometimes too many rocks and pebbles for my liking. Just avoid super high and low tides. However most of the time it's pretty good. To get to Green Hill beach from the south go north on rt. 1 past Charlestown. there is an exit on the left with a sign that says Green hill beach road. Go down it until you get to Mautuket rd. Go left onto it. You know it's the right on because it has names like abalone and barnacle roads. Go down it until you reach a three way intersection. go left. Then keep going until you get to another 3 way intersection. Continue straight to yet another 3 way intersection. Go left on this one. You'll pass many of nice houses on the left, including one that looks like a Spanish type thing. After a mile or 2 the road veers left and then becomes a dirt road. you have to park on the left side of the road cause it's a private beach. Submitted by Rafael Nighingale:raf@repeter.phys.uri.edu More on Green Hill Whoever wrote that Green Hill piece has gone insane, I work down there and I can tell you its not that great. anyway, his directions are all screwed up, here is what it should read. go north on Rte.1 past Charlestown, take the green hill beach exit on the right. Take the first left, and continue down that street until the stop sign. take another left and then a quick right. Now go down this street to the very end, going past all the nice houses on your left. At the end of the street is a dirt turn around, and a building that's the Green Hill Beach Club. you can go there buts its private. Or you can take the last left down Rosebriar Ave. before the dirt turnaround, and then take a right onto Carpenter drive. At the end of this road (100yds.) is the Green Hill Beach Assoc. parking lot, which is private but I will let them in... From: tierney <tierney@edgenet.net> Even More Green Hill is real sketchy. It's decent cause
there's no people swimming, but there's a pant load of sea weed, rocks,
and the drop off is horrible. I'f you're just learning how to skim or
just want a place to go and do shove it's or anything besides aerials
(even though depending on the conditions you can get some good ones) go
there. It's mellow and the people around there are cool. Have fun and
good luck. Peace. If you know where the Umbrella Factory is it's
about 6 miles south from there. Take you're right at the sign that says
Green Hill Beach. Go down that road until you come to another sign that
say Green Hill Beach with an arrow, take that left and then that right
(the arrows are self explanatory). Go down the road a mile and the beach
is right there. Park wherever and go skim. P.S. Watch out for deer
depending on the season they live in the woods before you take your
second turn. Peace. |
