Shek-O Beach

Shek-O beach is the only accessible place in Hong Kong where skimboarding is good. It is best at high tide when the waves are close to the shore. As it is a fairly flat beach, the waves tend to be breaking too far out at low tide. In addition the waves are present only when the wind is blowing from the East or North-east which usually happens in winter or during a Typhoon.

During the winter the lifeguards shouldn't be there so there won't be any problems but if there are, try to stay well away from the swimmers or they will kick you off the beach.

There are many other places to skimboard in Hong Kong but they are not so accessible. Take a map and look for all the beaches facing to the East or Northeast. They usually offer good skim when the wind is blowing, but they usually require a long walk before-hand

Tai Long Wan

This is possibly the most beautiful beach in Hong Kong. Hard to access but provides excellent left and right hand breaks. It's about 2km long. Camping is possible. There are dangerous under currents though and the occasional shark. Otherwise, you’re pretty safe. Anyways... it's not like you're out a mile from shore.

You've got to get a map... take a ferry from Wong Shek Pier to Bradbury hall and hike over the mountain....... there is a small village there... You'll be fine if you have a map.
