Maine

Popham State Beach..  Best Months are in the summer.. Best tide is a
late afternoon switch from low to high.. Good for long flatwater cruises
down the beach..  On days with a good breeze the waves become fairly
ride able.. Its no Aliso But for Mainers its pretty good...

Reed State Park.. Same Conditions as Popham but a decent side break when
the tide is coming in...  This is the better of the two... Less crowded
and less rocks tend to wash up..  Popham is Bigger though in terms of
rideable sand...  Both Have extremely cold Water so Go on a sunny day..
Hope to see you there..  If you see some idiot screaming down the beach
on a skimmer its probably me.. Give me a yell we'll party..

Pine Point Beach, Scarborough

You can't really ride and good waves here unless there was a storm the night before, but the beach is extremely flat at low-tide, and is great for beginners.

Off of route one , take pine point road, and follow it down, and signs will guide you the rest of the way.

Wells Beach

Long smooth beach that is perfect for long rides and hitting waves at low and high tide, mid to low tide is perfect becouse there is no rocks at all, not very crowded, with some hot chicks.

Exit 2 off maine turnpike (wells), take left, then first right(Chapel rd.) follow until end, right on Rt.1, left onto Mile Rd. , at end of road.

 Drakes Island Beach, Wells Maine

A fairly private spot that is larger than Gooches beach.  The stones and shells can be annoying, but they can be avoided.  It is great for sandsurfing, but also pretty good (for Maine) for hitting the waves within an hour before and after high tide.  If you wish walk about a mile down the beach until you hit adjacent Parson's beach which is steeper, but tends to have lots of rock.

If you can follow the directions to Wells beach, which the other guy gives, you should be able to find Drakes beach (follow Drakes Island road off of Route 1, it is near a Chinese take-out.

Small Point

This spot is the greatest to me.  it is where I learned and where most of my friends learned also.  Although I did find my groove at a little place called Seaside Florida but the waist high waves of small point stay true to my heart.  it is perfect for a beginner because for Maine it is a pretty flat beach.  It’s best at low tide (late afternoon) or really early in the morning.  When ever you go you will probably see me and my crew.

Once you get into Phipsburg chances are you will be on route 209 if you aren't on 209 you have messed up.  You will follow this road for about 10 miles until you see the entrance for small point, take that road and there you are.

Sacrborough Beach

At the main entrance there's a big crowd but if you head left down the beach is clears up to a few walkers now and then. It's usually where the surfers go since the waves are somewhat bigger. Best times are the before and a little after low tide, but at high tide there's small rocks and shells, and the water gets really deep. And go on a sunny day in the summer, it's Maine and it's cold.

The Scarborough exit off of Interstate 95. Take route 77 and you can't miss it. It's a state park and there are plenty of signs.

Higgins Beach

Higgins is a sweet spot to skim in the summer cause its always really flat, and it goes for awhile.  It’s kind of a local beach so you have to pay to park, because you can’t park on the street.  It’s a good beach and it’s flat; nice for inland skimming. Once in awhile, like after a storm, they’ll have some pretty big waves there.  Last summer the east coast hurricanes brought some 8 foot waves a couple times..

Northbound, Maine turnpike to Exit 7. From tollbooth stay straight till you reach the traffic light on Route 1.  Take a right onto Route 1 for approximately 1 mile until you reach the second traffic light.  Take a left at the second traffic light, this will be Pleasant Hill Road.  Stay on Pleasant Hill Road until it becomes Route 77 (second stop sign).   Take a right onto Route 77 for about half a mile where you see a road on your left across from a vegetable stand.  This is Ocean Ave.  Go to the beach at the end.
