Puerto Vallarta

Ok before I get nailed with criticism like the guy that submitted the Rosarito beach spot , I want to let you know that I didn't actually skim in Puerto Vallerta. I went there for a diferent reason . However once I got there I saw some kid carrying a small board , about the size of a woody, but was not wooden.  All the beaches I saw in Puerto Vallerta had shore break.

However, there are a few problems I saw right off the bat.  First of all Puerto Vallerta is on a bay and the waves do not get very big. Second of all the beach is not sloped like Aliso and Marine St. (San Diego), and there is not much room to drop your board and jump on it.  If you are like Jeff Gomez you shouldn't have a problem , but if it takes you 3-4 steps to jump on you might struggle.

Nevertheless, this spot is worth trying. Sorry I do not have more info if anyone else knows more about this place, speak your mind.

Puerto Vallarta is far. Its way south on the west coast of Mexico , the closest large city is Guadalajara. There are direct flights to Puerto Vallarta from Los Angeles and San Diego, or you could fly to Guadalajara and then from there its 30 min flight or 3-4 hour drive. Hint: it is much cheaper to drive to Tijuana and fly from there. Park your car at the border and take a taxi to the Airport. The taxi shouldn't cost more then 10-12 bucks , you need to bargain with the cab drivers, never go with the first offer.

San Pancho, San francisco, Nayarit

This spot is located on the far side of Ssan Pancho beach away from costa azul surf hotel. You will be able to tell your in the right place because there will be a few surfers out.The beach is pure white sand with about 4 foot waves breaking right near the shore. Best at high tide. There is some coral in some spots so go where the local kids are swimming or you could get pretty cut up. The beach has no crowds even though its perfect. Good surf, good skimming, good restaurants, and the town is real nice. You can rent quads if you want to drive on the beach.

The spot is in san francisco, nayarit which is about 30 minutes from the puerto vallarta airport. Follow the signs on the highway for san francisco which is just after sayalita. Follow the signs to costa azul.

Baja Malibu

WARNING!!!!  I am taking a serious risk in submitting this spot.  I could get severely maimed or gummed.  This spot is in Baja California, Mexico and its at a place called Baja Malibu.  It's right along the freeway that leads you into Rosarito.  It used to have a big sign that said Baja Malibu on it but I'm not sure anymore.  If you ask any of the locals in Rosarito they can tell you where it is.  This spot was sweet when I skimmed it last winter around high tide.  The high tides take out some sand and provide a nice little slope leading to some dangerous but fun beach braking waves.  When I came back in the summer this spot was all wet sand at low tide and great for sand skimming.  The last thing that I ask is that you don't surf there because someone will be sure to slash your tires, key your car or make physical threats.  I won't go into details.  Happy skimming!

Rebuttal to Baja Malibu Information

Hi. I was visiting your web page when I look under international skim spots an saw Baja Malibu. At the end you say don't try to go surfing cause you'll get your tires slashed. I would like to tell you that that info is totally inaccurate. My grandparents live down there and I've been going down there since I was a baby. I surf and skim. If you go out to skim its the same as going out to surf. You wont get your tires slashed. The reason that that community has a bad rap is because most of the surfers who go down there are totally inconsiderate of the owners property. For instance you know the main entrance to the beach (the stairs) well you know the broken down house right there, some of the surfers go to the bathroom in there.  Do you wonder why the maintenance guy is always cleaning up the trash on the street? Well I can guarantee its not all the retired people who live there. Of all the times I've been down there I have never heard a story about slashed tires. Your either making it up, or you heard that from some bitter surfer who couldn't get passed the gate. And another reason you info is off is because... the skimming there sux, unless of course you learning, there's not enough shore break.

Las Animas beach

When I was there, the beach had nobody on it (probably because there are no roads that lead to it), and it was going off.  Nice big shorebreak, with a fairly steep shore.  Only thing is watch out for a big rock in the middle of the beach, barely hidden by the waves.

To get there, take a bus in Puerto Vallarta as far south as possible.  Get off the bus and walk down the steep road to get to a small town with a little beach.  From the beach get a water taxi to take you to Las Animas beach...boat driver will know where it is.

Manzanillo

Manzanillo Bay is separated into two distinct, very long beaches by a peninsula. The northern beach has fun surfing but no skimming. The southern beach on the other hand has a steep beach and some very heavy shorebreak, right on the beach. I came to Mex to surf but brought my skim along as well and scored shoulder to head high tubes here! There were actually a few kids with homemade skimmers who I made friends with. The beach is very long, the water is HOT, and there is nobody in the water as it is known as a dangerous place to swim. A solid break

Manzanillo Bay is located in the state of Colima, about four hours south of Puerto Vallarta. The skimmable beach is the southern one and it is very long. I stayed primarily in front of the Marbella Hotel but there’s miles of sand. If you plan on being around there bring your skim. Oh, there is a taqueria across the street from the hotel with a mother-daughter team at night who give meaning to the term "back". CABRON!

Melaque

It’s a very fast wave, breaks left and right and goes from small waves to 3 meter, locals are good people its a very nice beach with warm weather and nice surf spots near by.

Go to Guadalajara, Jalisco. Take the highway to Colima and then to Manzanillo also good for skimboarding but not as good, and half an hour it’s barra.
