Mississippi Gulfport 26 miles of beach that you can skim on. Almost all flat land (no waves or small ones) and at any point in time you can find empty beach or packed with tourist no one ever bothers you. Just make sure you walk the area that you want to use for rocks or sand bars, low tide being the best time to go. The water is a little brown but that is from the tanin in leaves and the silt from the Mississippi river being trapped by the barrier islands. You can even take a ferry out to ship island and hit waves 3 to 5 feet.. I-10 e/w take the hwy 49 exit and follow south to hwy 90 and turn left and pick a spot of beach just remember it is 26 miles of beach and hwy 49 is dead center of it all. If you want to go out to the island then when you get to hwy 90 intersection just go straight across to the harbor and find the coast guard station the ferry is right next to it their are two ferries early and very early so have time to spare for the trip. Bay St. Louis, Bay St. Louis Mississippi This is an awesome place when the tide is low.
There is very little or no waves at all. At low tide pools stretch for
miles and miles on end with hardly any people on the week days and some
people on the weekends. You can get long runs in without a problem. Just
look out for small rocks in some locations Get off of I/10 in Hancock county heading towards New Orleans, LA. and take the exit to 603 which is Bay St. Louis. Take a left off the interstate and head all the way down that road till you get to a light. From there go straight and stay on that road till you cross the train tracks and go straight till you hit the beach and then your there. Submitted By: darklord_62@hotmail.com Horn Island Horn Island is a barrier island off the coast of Mississippi, not much skimboarding is available on the north side. On the south side is the Gulf of Mexico, good waves from 2-4 feet. The sand has a general incline. On high tide expect to find rideable waves. On low tide sometimes you can get a sandskim in, but don't expect too much. Times to go are in late fall or spring. When there is a tropical storm in the gulf, great waves brew up. To get to Horn Island you must have a boat. From
Mobile, Start out going south on N Water St. by turning right, take I-10
west towards pascagoula/pensecola merge onto I-10 west. take
Franklin Creek Road exit-exit number 75. Turn left on Franklin
Creek road, turn slight right onto US-90W. Turn left on Market St.
go to the end then trun right on Beach Boulevard, go to the end of Beach
Boulevard, and unload you boat at the mouth of the river. Go south
eight miles, go to the east of the Homeport to avoid hitting ground. Submitted By: NelsonHague@hotmail.com
