Praia de Sao Pedro

I saw that you didn't have any Portuguese spots so I thought I might give you the location of one. IT is at "praia de Sao Pedro" in Sao Pedro do Estoril. This beach is about twenty minutes to thirty minutes away from the center of Lisbon. You go along the "MARGINAL" (this is the name of the road).. in direction to "CASCAIS" ( the name of a well known village). About half way across the "marginal" you get signs of "S. Pedro do Estoril".  The beach is beside a night club called "BAFUREIRA".  The best time of the year there is usually late September early October.. when the waves have the best formation.. although sometimes.. it has its days!! Usually waves of about 1m to 2 m high. . with a good formation.

Estoril Coast

The Estoril coast is very similar to Laguna Beach.  Many small beaches for 25KM with many different waves. The best one is São Pedro do Estoril.

Ilha de Faro

A beach island in the Algarve, connected to the mainland by a small bridge, it is an enormous beach. Conditions are better at high tide, and certain parts of the beach are better than others. I live quite far away and only go up for championships so I am not sure of the best spots.  Locals: 1993 vice champion Luis Veriato - 1994 Junior Champion Valter Verissimo

Lagoa da Albufeira

Conditions at High Tide make it a very good spot, unfortunately, the sand is of a consistency that hurts your feet after a while, and can be quite painful.

South of Lisbon across the river near the Caparica Coast.

Lisbon Area

S. Pedro, has an excellent shore break, but is only rideable at high tide.  Unfortunately the beach is very small, and the beach is often very crowded which makes skimming difficult.

Tamariz, is one of the only beaches that  is rideable during low and high tide, waves tend to break far from the shore, so they are only surfable with very good quality foam boards, of which there are more and more now days.

Monte Estoril is good at high tide and when there are big swells. Hitting the man made sea wall makes the waves rebound of it and cross the beach vertically at right  angles to the waves coming in, this makes for very interesting conditions. Only High Tide.

Guincho beach is one of the best known beaches in Cascais and in Portugal, due to it's excellent windsurfing conditions, it is a very unstable beach, conditions vary from terrible to excellent, and even the shape of the beach changes from season to season. It is also very windy as it is one of the westernmost points of  Europe and there is nothing between it and the American Continent. Best at High Tide, but also good at Low Tide Santa Cruz, North of Lisbon, there is usually one championship there a year.  It has a good slope and generally presents good conditions. Best at High Tide

Vieira de Leiria, is a very big beach, situated in Leiria District, just north of Lisbon, it has a very good slope, and a good beach break, very crowded in the summer. Best at High Tide.

Santa Cruz

Yes, we also have Santa Cruz. It´s a very beautifull local with lots of beaches. Has very powerfull waves, specialy in the winter. In a luky day, we have the oportunity to skim big and powerfull waves.

It´s located near Lisbon (30 mn.). It´s the spot were was made the European Skimming Contest in 1998.

Sao Pedro De Moel

A very nice place too crowded in summer. The beach has a good slope.  The waves are not big but well formed. Be careful of hidden stones.  Many surfers and skimers love this place for the waves but also for playing volley-ball and for the night.

Sao Pedro De Moel is located in the MARINHA GRANDE district. It's 15 km far from Viera de Leiria, 10 km from Marinha Grande, 25 from Leiria, 100 km north from Lisboa.

Praia Grande

Translated it means "Big beach" and not surprisingly that is what it is. Located in Sintra it is a well known surfing spot, along with the Guincho beach (already included in your slim spots) it is the best beach for big waves, however it has the advantage of being more sheltered than Guincho, and therefore gets less wind (The wind in Guincho, which is almost always on-shore can easily ruin an otherwise perfect session)

Conditions vary but it is always best at high tide, the sea bed changes almost daily, specially with big swells, but when it gets big you can count on having rideable waves in Praia Grande.

Sintra is approximately 30 minutes from Lisbon and easily accessible.

Popula Beach, Sao Miguel (near Ponta Delgada)

Wow...the best skim spot I have ever seen. Picture this....soft white sand...a nice slope....and a clean (so clean) 3 footer. It's about five minute drive East from Ponta Delgada. It's a French style beach break heaven. The tide is just right in the summer (May-August) ....so don't worry: you can show off those abs to them Portugese girls/no wetsuit needed. However....keep an eye out for them damn jellyfish (If you fall). Those little blue bastards float right up to where the sand meets the water on a high tide. All in all, if you love to skim, this is the place to be.

Popula Beach is located on the Azorean Island of Sao Miguel (Portugal). Start in the main city of Ponta Delgada and drive East following the Ocean (south coast). It's only a 5 minute drive. You can't miss it. Don't worry if these directions sound a bit vague because the island is so small that it only takes 30 minutes to drive from the sout coast to the north coast. Plus, just ask any local where Popula Beach is.

Carcavelos, Lisbon Area

Large open beach o Rare late Spring or late Summer swells give a small, slow, but powerful shorebreak. Winter and even sometimes Summer low-tide  with large sand-banks and powerful foam for classical cruising, flat free-style, or long, high-speed flat-foam carving.

Outside Lisbon and 2 miles before S. Pedro.  500yards from train station (Lisbon-Cascais). By car, take the marginal (N6) Lisbon-Cascais, turn back at the roundabout at Carcavelos, and just enter one of the parking lots strewn along the beach above the boardwalk and restaurants/cafes.

Praia Grande - Porto Covo

It´s a sandy beach of about 200 mts large and a nice little restaurant. Crowded during the summer (june to august) but from september on it´s amazing: no crowd, strong beautiful waves, nice weather. It´s a long way down to the wave at low tide and rough seas. At high tide we've 3-4 feet waves breaking away from the shore. Normally no wind at all. Cleanest water on the coast. Often we've two or more waves coming at the same time!

Take the highway Lisbon-Algarve and go down to Sines (more or less half of the way to Algarve: 150 kms). When you reach Sines take the road by the sea at São Torpes and drive about 15-20 kms until you find the village of Porto Covo.   Praia Grande is right at the beggining of the village.   Go down to the beach and skim hard. Don´t forget to clean up before you leave.

Comporta Beach

Comporta Beach, right next to Comporta town, in Troia ,located on the long beach (40 km) of Alentejo, south of Portugal.  Its a little abandoned but it got the best coconuts and skimmers waves, its so strong and beautiful that we cant imagine riding it..

Joao Barreiro, former of the Folha skimboards portugal told us is the best pro beach for skimmers in Portugal, and we all agree!!! Please, visit Portugal, its a wonderful country lots of sun, nice people and cheap expenses.....

To get to Comporta Beach :

by Lisbon (capital) get the 25 abril bridge, get to the highway to Setúbal, in Setubal get the boat to Troia (ask someone how its easy) and then in the other side take your car for about 20 km until u reach comporta)

instead of going by setubal ,get the highway to Alcacer do Sal (more less 70 km) and turn to comporta Troia....

Praia da polvoeria, Leiria Portugal

Praia da polvoeira is one of the most unknown beaches of Portugal, one of the best places of skimboard in Portugal. Four that reason polvoeira has been chosen this year for one of the 5 beaches/contests of the national championship of Portugal. It has many waves,3 up to 9 feet perfect, and almost times has waves like surfing (90/120 feet for our left side direction, front waves and with good conditions right waves when the wind blows by soul. Beach almost virgin with only one little café, placed with some rocks and sand with 1 km of very different waves in same beach, if you don’t believe... try to see some pictures there. 20 km From soul, You have also another popular beach with waves in winter to 12/15 feet ... it’s called NAZARE, if you do not believe ask Ivan Ashuer, The First American Skimmer who was there in 1991, today all local people remember him like... "...The First Gringo here..."!

Place: PortugalLisbon to there: 125 km north.Leiria to there: 28 km west. Dictrict: Leiria Skimbeaches Near: Saõ Pedro de Moel(8km); Vieira de Leiria(20km); Vale Furado(5km), Nazare: 18 km, Salgado

Costa Azul

Although is not well known this is one of the best skim spots I ever saw....  Big waves, no people around and great inclination for high speed rides, better at half low tide, good access( by boat in Setubal or Alcacer do Sal)

Lisbon-highway to South (A2) direction Setubal (30minutes)follow to Alcacer Do sal or take a boat(allows cars) to troia(40 Minutes) .In troia go for 10 km until "Comporta" or "carvalhal" for about 5 km more.

Praia de Adraga

This is the spot where I usually skim, you basically have 4 spots on the beach to use, on the far left near the cliff, where there usually is a sidewash, but this is the place on the beach where the break is farthest. On the middle left you have medium sized right waves, in the middle is located the largest break, right on the sand, and to whatever side you want. On the very far end of the beach you have your medium sized left waves. There are waves here almost always, although in the winter they grow to be huge. These are powerful waves that pack a punch, the rides are short, but there's a lot to be done on each wave, in the middle they often create barrels. There hardly isn't any crowd just once in a while some losers who cant even catch their boards. In the summer the beach is quite populated, there aren't any rocks to be aware of.

This beach is just south of Praia grande in Sintra, from Cascais you have to get to Malveira da Serra, and keep going in the direction of Sintra until you reach an intersection that leads to Almocageme, from there you have signs all the way to the beach. i cant explain this using a gas station because the roads aren’t charted (go figure) the best way is asking for directions to each of the points I mentioned.

Moledo Beach

Well Moledo Beach is the last beach of Portugal to the North, so it isn't very hard to find, it has HUGE waves all year round, it has some rocks in the middle, but very easy to get away from them... the water is very cold so be careful!

It is like one hour from OPorto, going north, you'll pass Braga, and it is right next to Viana do Castelo, then you just follow the signs, it is very easy!!

Paço d'Arcos

Famous by siders or side waves, Paço d'Arcos' beach is a very good spot pointed by Portuguese skimmers. High tides make a powerful wave loaded with a lot of energy and, due to a wall, doubles in two waves, one sider and one normal. This sider connects to another wave and makes an "A". It's awesome to make long rides and aerials.

By the side of Paço d'Arcos' Marginal.
