Rhode Island

Narragansett Town Beach

Green Hill Beach

Charlestown

Newport, Rhode Island

Newport is on an island with three different towns, two of which have really good beaches for straight ahead sand riding.  There is 1st or Easton's Beach in Newport and 2nd or Sachuest Beach in Middletown.  1st  beach varies from tide to tide.  At high tide the center beach is usually very good for long rides and some wave riding but only between September and early November (October has been known for great riding, if your feet can handle the cold).
During the summer months, the skimmers are pushed to the surfing section which is good at low and mid-tide.  But at most high tides the upper portion of the beach is beat to shit and not any real fun.  Trust me I already broke a collar bone here.  Occasionally high tide is good for riding out and hitting the waves but for the most part just be ready to ride the sand.  2nd beach is pretty much the same thing but it is good for sand riding at all tides, although mid-tide is usually better.

From All Points South and West: Rt. 95 to Rt. 4 South to Rt. 138 East, follow the signs to Newport and Jamestown.  Once in Newport, take the first exit off of the Pell Bridge (this bridge has a $2.00 toll) to Scenic Newport and take a left at the bottom of the off ramp.  This road will bring you to America's Cup Ave (AKA  Rt. 138).  Follow 138 through Newport.  America's Cup will change its name to Memorial Blvd but there should be signs for "Rt.
138".  In some places the street names are marked more clearly than the signs for 138, so if you can remember both names you should be fine.  After going through the bulk of town, you'll go down a hill and see a beach right in front of you off to the left.  This is 1st or Easton's Beach.  If you follow 138 past 1st Beach and go straight instead of bearing left, this road
will bring you to 2nd or Sachuest Beach which is maybe a half mile away from 1st .
- From Most points North.  Rt. 24 South take the exit marked "Newport/Middletown Beaches" for Rt. 138.  Follow the signs to the Beaches.  Close to the Newport/Middletown border signs will be posted for both beaches, make your choice a follow the appropriate signs.

East Beach, Watch Hill, RI

This is the spot I have been skimming for five or six years now.  Pretty decent with a lot of room.  At the end of July it is very good.  Often a shelf is built up nice with a great slope into 2-3 foot waves.  Also it has become a growing skimmers haven.  There were about four of us five years ago, now there are a core group of twenty regulars.  Big air possibilities into deep water, but this is only when the waves are up.  When it is not to big, low tide is great for long beach rides (for skater-style riders).  One bad thing, if a hurricane or big storm comes, it sometimes will severely carve up the beach and once in a while it will bring in some pebbles.

Directions
Take route 1 into Westerly, RI.
This is the southwestern most town in the state.
Take route 1-a to Watch Hill.
Do not go to the town beaches, they are awful, and expensive to park.
Once in Watch Hill go to the ocean side, not the sound and look for the big yellow hotel
The Ocean House.  Everyone in Westerly and Watch Hill knows where this is.
The beach is right behind it.  At low tide head towards the light house right where the Wall is.  You've found the spot.  Also, ask a local to show you where Fenway is.  Great night skimming.

Misquamicut Beach, Westerly

The best spots are usually in front of the rocks at high tide, risky but worth the air time. In the spring nobody is there. A wet suit is recommended. High Tide in the Summer after 5pm or before 7am if your an early bird. These are the best times for good skimming because there are less people and no lifeguards. East beach is also a great spot, about 5 minutes away.

95n or 95s, exit 1 Westerly, to route 1 south Misquamicut Beach exit.

Roy Capenters Beach

All my friends skim this place every day Chad Martel (the owner of kind industries lives down there) more toward the end of the summer when the waves get big are they really good for skimboarding, even though my friends skim every day it is a very coastal break and has a drop off. When the wind blows the right way the liners set up really nice and low tide is definitely the best time to skim because there are no rocks. High tide is mostly just brutal.

It is located off route 1 near the ocean mist.

Southshore Beach

This beach is Great for riding WAVES! They are ussualy large, the only catch is you have to be able to ride fast and hard. Also be able to ride over deep water to get to unbroken waves but if you are good enough the rides will be well worth the effort. Good time to go is right before sun down when the surf report is good for all of southern Rhode Island. Sometimes there is a lot of people just move down the beach to the east just after the rocks where the surfers enter the water.

From Rt.24 Take exit 5 you will then be on main rd. in Tiverton R.I. head south to Little Compton it is at least a 30 min. ride in to the middle of no where but it is worth it then on your left you will see swamp Rd. on the left it is hidden so look for it the the whole time follow that road till it looks like it is going to go left take the road to the right just before it there might be a home made sign but some times I rip it down so out of towners can not find it to swim and get in my way.

Block Island

Block Island, RI is no Laguna Beach,CA.. but its a nice spot for us East Coast Riders. I am from Brodgeport,CT and I have been skimming on Block Island for about 5 years now. It has nice sand skimming and the waves can be very good for going into them. Check it out!

Can go by either plane or boat. Planes take off from Westerly,RI. Boats leave from Montauck, NY..New London, CT, and Point Judith, RI. Plane rides take about 10-15 minutes to get to the island, boats take about 55-70 minutes.
