South Carolina If Your Traveling to South Carolina and end up in Myrtle Beach, The
Dunes Club break is probably the best spot around. The beach varies in
degrees of steepness as you approach the swash toward the north. High
tide is usually the best time if your into long rides. The beach
gradually slopes to the north so your rides can be unusually long if
your lucky. At low tide you can receive some killer shore break ( for
the East Coast at least ) pretty often. One large Getting to The Dunes isn't hard, getting in is the real problem.
There is a guard house near the entrance and they only let members in.
But if you park right there near the guard house, just this year the
city has finally made a public access to it right there next to the
private one. If you come in on highway 501 you want to get on business
17 and head north. Once you reach Hilton Head Island, SC Looking for the best place to work on your 360's and 900's? Step out to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. While the beach lacks the huge waves that let you get some air under your board, it does have the flattest beach you could ask for. When the waves wash up on the beach you'll have a 1-4 inch water depth for a good 30 second before the next wave....perfect for working on spins. -->However the beach does get steep towards high tide so step out year round at low tide. As for crowds, you have a lot of people from June 15 all the way through August. But don't worry, they respect your space and give you some room. I also recommend going out around 7:00 during the summer because the beaches are deserted with the exception of some fine ladies, and you can also catch a great sunset.-------happy skimming! Take 1-95 from wherever you might be and follow the signs to Hilton Head Island. Then follow signs to the oceanfront and walk through a beach access at one of the resorts. I highly suggest the area in front of Grand Ocean Resort. It's women and white-fine sand. Don't forget to talk with the other guys you see there...parties happen every night. Submitted By: Blueyedguy16@aol.com Public Beach/Campground, Hunting Island The tides are pretty good. The waves I would say
are best during half tide or low tide. The season that is the best would
probably be during the summer. And the best thing is the crowds are
really small, at least on the campground property. The public beach
really isn't that bad though. Find Beaufort and ask directions from there. The
island is right by there. It's right beside Fripp Island and about and
an hour away from Hilton Head. Submitted By: 007@iol24.com Folly Island public beach, Folly
Island South Carolina This spot is great for sand surfing or small wave
riding. You can skim almost any time of the day because there is a
nice sandbar all the time. There are barely any crowds in the springtime
but it might get a little packed during summer. Head towards Charleston and keep going as far as you can until you reach the beach and there you are. Edisto Beach, Edisto Beach South Carolina State Park: When you first enter the island,
the spot is straight ahead, between the SP and the Restaurant.
Check either side of jetty. Only works @ high tide, any swell from
E to S. Small sized swells come in clean. Big swells bring
big outside surf (unknown to everyone else in the state). The Point: Follow the main road until you see a "Holmes St." sign (near water-tower). Take a left to the access. About 100 yards from the beach there is a huge pit that extends for miles. Larger swells gather momentum in this area and come from nowhere to drop on steep sand at the Point. On a small ESE (2-3ft seas), I have gotten chest high lines at this spot. Very fun, dumpy wave. Also a high tide spot, on any swell from SE to SSW. From Hwy 17, find Hwy 164, and follow the signs to Edisto Beach. Submitted By: White_shark22@hotmail.com
Garden City Pretty decent shorebreak at high tide but mostly dumping on the sand, go down the beach to find the best spots. Good sand surfing during low tide with few reachable waves. Overall a pretty fun and decent place to skimboard pretty much anywhere down the beach. Better to the north of the pier. But can get VERY crowded so watch out. Go to myrtle beach and go south and you'll notice it. Can't miss it. Submitted By: Andyroo186@msn.com 42nd Street South Carolina is hardly known for its shorebreaks.
But as it goes, we have stumbled upon a rare break for our beaches. This
break happens at high tide usually near the 42 street beach access at
isle of palms. Crowds are non-existant. No one is there, aside from a
few passing runners of maybe a few families in the summer. At high tide
the beach gets a decent slope that cause shore break knee to waist
high....its not much but its the best we have found. Believe me we make
the best of it. There is also a small ...semi-rideable break at low tide
in the same location.
