The Cove, Knoxville TN

The Cove is basically just a recreation area on Fort Loudon Lake outside Knoxville, TN.  It's skimming is best during late winter to early spring, but since it's a sandy beach, it can be ridden anytime of year. During the winter, the lake level gets lowered revealing a nice stretch of beach below the white sand line.  The only waves are those of tiny windswell or passing boats, but you can pull some snaps and spray the buoy just off the beach. Hey, it's just TN.

If you're seriously thinking about going there don't have high hopes. It's not great, but it is a place to skim regardless. Take the Maryville exit off I-40 and after about 1.5 miles take the Westland drive exit. Turn right on Westland drive until you come to Northshore Drive. Turn right onto Northshore and go about 2 or 3 miles. You will cross two bridges. After the second bridge you will pass a boat dock on you left. Shortly after the boat dock turn left into the parking lot by the playground and volleyball nets across from the baseball field. Park and look for the designated swimming area(white sand beach). Stay on the sand or kiss your feet goodbye. There's a bit of glass, but the sand area is good. Bust some snaps or wait for a boat to go bye.. I seem to be the only one crazy enough to ride there. Good luck.
