Virginia Virginia Beach, Virginia Va. Beach isn't known for its killer waves but every now and then it rips! I usually go out every Sunday and have been for the past year...I've skimmed up and down the beach and have found that the 58th and 67th street areas are sweet. Recently because of the storms the beach has changed shaped and about every ten feet there is a slight rise that if you drop your board on and head to the waves it's no problem to scarf it hardcore! To get there take 64 east to 44 east and when you get to the ocean pacific take a left and head on out until you get there. The ocean will be on your left!!! If you have any questions E-mail me at Wrobert@cnu.edu Submitted By: Wrobert@cnu.edu More on Virginia Beach, Virginia I have not lived there in about
5 years, but I skimmed there quite a bit a few years ago. Best
spots are usually on the left side of the 14th Street (15th Street???)
pier, good right to left break, and also in front of the Oceans Condos
(40th St) at high tide. Croatan used to go off at high tide (I
spent many a day there), but the best bet for Va. Beach is usually to
just park somewhere at the beach, grab your board, and hike down the
beach till you find the best From: Geoff Baker gbaker@micron.net Still More on Virginia Beach 57th & 58th streets are definitely the best for skimboarding in Va Beach. Some days, especially when there's a storm, it really rips. I saw it a few days ago at nearly chest, which is huge for here. There is a nice slope to the beach at high tide, (including the ridges mentioned by another local skimmer) and a nice flat for freestyle stuff at low tide. If you're really looking for some hardcore stuff, go at night. The Ramada Hotel at 57th has floodlights aimed at the beach. It's easy to find. Take 64 east to 264 east. Turn left at Pacific and keep going until you get to 57th street. Submitted By: rlbradham@hotmail.com Ocean View Beach, Norfolk, Virginia Summer is the best if you are looking for a good just skim along the beach spot. Water curves in and then goes straight in giving the break a powerful one in Summer. If you are looking for a good trick spot go in the winter. It rules. Waves are bigger and better than any other season. It's really awesome. From I-64 get off at first view. Take a right when you come to a dead end. Then go all the way down until you see Hammet. Take a left and you are there. Submitted By: jsdn2art@earthlink.net Chicks, Chesapeake Bay, Virginia Has lots of crowds memorial weekend and the forth
of July but if your a beginner and are teaching yourself then it is
ideal because the waves vary from real little to "surfable". Take northhampton to morningstar baptist and turn
left. then follow the road and then on the first turn after chicks beach
cafe you will see a stop sign. turn right then park and walk towards the
water baby. Submitted By: Gr8sk8r@xtower.com Croatan Beach, Virginia Beach It’s the best spot in Virginia I have seen yet.
It can be a bit crowded in the early afternoon but it clears out later.
When you get down to the beach go to the right where the sign points for
surfing and go all the way down near the fence, that's the best spot.
You have to watch out for surfers too though. The sand is pretty
hard so you go really fast and for the east coast it has incredible
slope. The only thing you have to watch out for is the drop off
it's abrupt and deep. If you're coming from I-264 turn right on Pacific Ave. then go all the way down to the bridge. Cross the bridge and it will turn into General Booth Blvd. Turn left on Croatan Rd. it will have a sign for municipal parking. Follow the signs for the free parking. Submitted By:
Treker85@aol.com Assateague Island National Seashore While Assateague may not be ideal for skimming every time you go
there, if you hit it right, you can have a good session. Try to
make it during high tide (check out www.harbortides.com,
a close zip code is 21851) The spot that I like is just north of
the north parking lot crowds. If you go on weekends in the summer,
you may have to go further down so you don't run over anyone. You
also may want to try walking south where the offroad vehicle area is.
The break isn't quite as good, but you get more room to yourselves.
If you really want the beach to yourself, go down early, a little before
sunrise. The water usually stays fairly warm and skimming while
the sun rises is an awe-inspiring experience. Plus, no one goes in
the water that early. Use 13 South or North depending on where you are coming from... Turn on route 175 at T's Corner, which is just south of Pocomoke City. Continue on to the island of Chincoteague, turn left at the light, go down till you see Maddox Ave. on the left, take that all the way to the beach. Since it is a national park, you will have to pay to get on. You can get a week’s pass for five dollars. Once in the refuge, drive to the traffic circle and take it around to go to the left parking lot, that is closest to the skim... have fun! Submitted By: b8sigrist@yahoo.com 2-4th street Virginia Beach Normally there are no crowds there. There is
a big wall of rocks right beside the spot. Good steep slope and
some big ole waves breaking from left to right. It’s a bit of a
distance to where they break, but its manageable and way worth it.
