Five
Pounds Lighter
Skim Video review of Five Pounds Lighter
The long
anticipated preliminary video from the Solag grom film production crew
otherwise known as Leaf has finally hit store shelves with a snap heard
louder than Mike Stanaland breaking his last Vic board. After having the
chance to view FPL two times in late September 2002 at the premier, I am
still amazed at the content, both skimming and non-skimming. Besides the
Jackass-esque stunts, prepubescent/adolescent tomfoolery, and
(hopefully) pseudo-homosexual aka “pseudosiz” innuendoes, the
skimming segments kick major ass with absolute authority. Some of the
standouts include Grady and Miles stomping backside bigspins on the way
out to the wave, Bill Bryan’s heavy thump session of giant air and fat
barrel to Dimmu Borgir, Morgan Just ripping mini siders, and newcomer
Brendan “Noogie” Stevens sticking a 360 shuvit out to the wave and
then tucking into a mini barrel. Due to
the video being nearly an hour long, there is an abnormal amount of
professional and amateur rider segments that include Grady
Archbold, Miles Grobman, Jaime Lovett, Jeff Gomez, George Bryan, Dan
“the white boy is back” McMillan, Erik “that boy needs therapy”
Christiansen, Paulo Prietto, Bill Bryan, Morgan Just, Dominic Prietto,
Brendan "Noogie" Stevens, Josh Shedden, and Sam Ferguson;
not to mention the other pro & am riders that have stellar clips
throughout the movie. Another
great aspect of FPL is the creativity involved which combined visually
stimulating video clips along with provocative music. The vibe for this
is best expressed during the wipeout section that consisted of fantastic
falls and drastic drops played to the music of German goth-metal kings
Rammstein. I remember a statement made by Tex Haines directly after the
movie premier, “that wipeout section was awesome, the music goes
perfectly with every clip.” Yes it did Tex, yes it did. For a
mere 25.00? plus shipping and handling you can purchase your own copy of
Five Pounds Lighter from the skimonline.com
skim shop. But why buy just one, you’ll watch the movie so many
times that you’ll need a backup copy just in case your VCR ruins your
original. You know deep down inside it’s better just to play it safe,
or better yet buy a copy for your ocean deprived cousin that lives in
Arkansas who thinks you’re a skiNboarder, he’ll definitely
appreciate the gift, as long as he’s competent enough to properly
operate a VCR. Finally,
I would like to commend Scott Stinnett Jr. and his brood of amateur
videographers who truly proved that anyone can make a great skim video
regardless of their age. So kids, if you’re not skimming, get out
there and film! DoMiNiC’s
