Liquid
CourageReviewed by Dominic Prietto Another summer is slowly winding down and another
hit 10th st. Bros video is now available. Bill and George
Bryan and their veteran videographers have combined some of the finest
footage from sessions this past year with the world’s best up and
coming riders. Proving their Laguna roots, the 10th st. bros
used a black and white artistic effect intro that foreshadows good times
and good waves. Victoria World Championships runner up and Las Brisas employee of the year Brandon Sears dominates a hip Kool Keith song throwing out 360 shuvits on siders matched with 360 airs on A-frames. Liquid Courage truly exemplifies Sears’ multitalented style of technical aerial assault and old school slashes and tubes. Miles Grobman follows with a cool punk song and a mess of sick waves and obese barrels. Morgan Just and Jeff Gomez share an original reggae dancehall type song in their section. A segment called “Dano-Vision” features hot chicks, the youngest ripper Sammy Stinnet, Dan McMillan, and Erik Christiansen getting some good rides in Solag. Mike Stanaland rolls in with an inverted frontside hit at West St. and some lightning fast snaps. The ‘Thin Three,” excuse me, “Treacherous Three” consisting of Brandon Roth, Cody Lopez, and James Lovett rip some tiny Totuava tech and some various sidewashes in South Laguna. At the beginning of Cody’s part he creeps up with a board in his hand like he’s about to bash a Montage employee for not letting him skim.(let’s hope it’s not Gauly) Brendan “Noogie” Stevens unveils his well rounded talent on huge days at West and Wedge as well as some technical trickery. Paulo Prietto has a good part with an annoying song. He slides out to many a long ride at Aliso and beyond. The wipeouts are killer, with some huge drops and spills at famous breaks around the country. Just like Sandcrabs there is an east coast adventure section. The first wave in the section shows a rider ( I believe Joey Vavala) doing a frontside 180 air to fakie floater. This segment show’s some excellent right coast liners, not mention Jason Wilson and Brad Evers catching some left coast waves and getting into some trouble. I would have to say that my favorite piece from
Liquid Courage is CABO. The vibe totally reminds me of the CABO part in
Sandcrabs (probably my favorite 10th st. bros flick) minus
the clubbing and late night partying. This portion of the video was well
put together, combining superb video imagery with the attitude of the
trip plus the melodies of an exceptional song. Much emphasis was placed
on capturing phenomenal wave riding on the tip of the Baja peninsula in
addition to spots on the east cape and north of Cabo San Lucas at the
contest site’s town of Todo Santos. Just this section alone makes the
video worth purchasing. This movie is a must see for anyone that skims,
whether you’ve been skimming since the wooden days or just bought your
first zap axe down in Venice. Check this movie out! videos, and we just saw Liquid Courage....about 6 times. This
video was sick, actually, it was so sick, it was gross.
The footage was amazing, between scenes were amazing, and the
style of each rider was definitely shown in a high energy flick,
with tons of smashing rides and things you never thought possible on a
skimboard. However, the only thing we didn't like was some of the music (most was good though!), and the lack of riders. We realize it is a BRYAN BROS film. All in all, I say it was an amazing flick which should find a home in everybody's VCR. As compared to AEGIS, this video isn't quite as good as Aegis (in my opinion), only because there are only a few riders. But I'd give Liquid Courage a 8.5/10 because the footage was so amazingly sick, a must see for the humor and cleverness of a few in the vid. LOL...good stuff If you have seen this video and would like to write a review for it please email it to me. |
